The present canvas of Solomon worshipping Idols is a previously unpublished work that was part of a series on Old Testament kings. Another painting of a comparable subject and size is known, depicting David and the Prophet Gad (164 × 207 cm; Auckland Castle) and The Idolatry of Solomon (164 × 207 cm; private collection). For Scavizzi and Ferrari it is not clear if the this works where painted in Naples or during Giordano’s time in Spain, but it should be noted that both have the same provenance to the Allendesalazar family.
